This guide for the first seven days of the prayer challenge is meant to help get you thinking about how you pray. It takes what is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer and examines it as a model prayer. Each day focuses on a different line in the prayer. This guide is NOT meant to replace prayer time for these eight days—rather it should be done in conjunction with prayer time.
Day 1—“Our Father in Heaven”
- Describe God’s role as Father. How do you relate to God as Father? Read Rom. 8:14-17, 1 John 3:1-2, 2 Sam. 7:14, Isa. 64:8.
- How should we approach God as our Father?
- Describe God’s role as King. How do you relate to God as King? Read Lev. 25:55, Rom. 6:22, Isa. 45:23, Zech. 14:9.
- How should we approach God as our King?
- What are some other roles or titles that our Father and King has in Scripture? What do they mean to you?
Day 2—“Hallowed be thy Name”
- Shem (Name) – “an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character” (Strong’s, emphasis added)
- What is God’s Name? Read Exo. 34:5-7.
- How do you set apart (hallow) God’s Name?
- What are you looking forward to most in the Kingdom?
- Through struggle we find a hope for something greater. Through joy we find a taste of what our King has promised. What are some of the struggles and joys that give you glimpses of the Kingdom?
- How are you seeking the Kingdom today? Read Matt. 6:33.
Day 4—“Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”
- How do you know His will? Read Deut. 10:12-13, Micah 6:8, Psa. 40:8.
- What things do you have trouble submitting to God’s will? Read Matt. 26:39.
Day 5—“Give us this day our daily bread”
- How are you trusting God for provision? Read Matt. 6:25-33.
- Do you ever have trouble trusting God? Be specific.
- Read Deut. 8:3. How is God’s Word like bread?
Day 6—“Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us”
- Is there anyone that you need to be reconciled with? Read Matt. 5:23-24.
- If God treated you the same way your treat others, how would you stand? Read Matt. 6:14-15; 7:2, 12.
- Do you trust God for forgiveness?
Day 7—“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
- How did Yeshua resist temptation? Read Matt. 4:3-11; 26:41
- Sometimes we fall. What do we do then? Read Luke 22:31-34
