Chahir Zaki is a chaired Professor of Economics at the University of Orléans and a Research Fellow at the Laboratoire d’Économie d’Orléans. He currently holds the Chair on Environmental and Mineral Economics (CEME), where he teaches and conducts research on trade, environmental issues, natural resources, and macroeconomics.
He is also a Professor of Economics at Cairo University (currently on leave), where he previously served as Director of the French Section at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science. Additionally, he was Chair Holder of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Chair Program at Cairo University.
Alongside his academic roles, Chahir serves as a Lead Economist (part-time) and Research Fellow at the Economic Research Forum (ERF) in Cairo. He also works as a consultant for several international organizations. He is an Associate Researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in Bonn, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Osservatorio sulle Economie Emergenti (OEET) in Turin, and Director of Egypt’s pole within the Euro-Mediterranean and African Network for Economic Studies (EMANES). Furthermore, he is a member of the Experts’ Panel at the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA) and an elected Board Member of the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA).
Chahir holds a B.A. in Economics from Cairo University, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Economics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. His research has been widely published in refereed journals, focusing on international trade, trade policy, the environment, trade in services, applied economics, and macroeconomic modeling.
