Hello, I have been teaching in the Theatre Arts Department at City College for forty years. I attended St. Mary's University in Minnesota where I majored in English and Drama and minored in Ballet. My graduate degree is from the University of Illinois in Drama.
My early years in San Francisco, I spent as a professional actor and I still hold membership in Actors' Equity Association, which I served as an elected representative for ten years, the Screen Actors Guild, and AFTRA. I worked in many of the small professional theatres and Shakespeare Festivals in the Bay Area as an actor and director. I also directed operas and musicals both professionally and in the City Summer Opera program here at the College.
Administratively, I served the Eureka Theatre as Managing Artistic Director for five years and worked with the California Revels for thirty years, recently retiring as Artistic Director. I was also partner in a video production company with whom I shot documentaries in numerous locales, including Tanzania and Nepal.
I usually teach the Dramatic Literature classes offered by the department, including Introduction to Theatre, Survey of Modern Drama and Survey of Classical Drama. I developed the first online sections of these classes and still teach them today. Occasionally, I teach acting classes including acting for the camera and have directed approximately twenty productions at CCSF over the years.
