The comparative clinical method has proposed this question to the working groups for some years: “Do you think, from these two or three sessions that the analyst presented to you in his report, that he considers “the situation as implicating one or two persons?” This apparently simple but subtly complicated question intends to clarify if the analyst takes into account his influence on the patient thinking: is he accompanying the patient producing his thoughts, by interventions or by transferential effect, or has he a role in inducing these thoughts, by his theory or his countertransferential movement?
