Introduction to Parts 2 & 3
Parts 2 & 3 of the Timeline take us through the Middle and Late Anglo-Saxon periods up to the mid-eleventh century and the Norman Conquest, including the early history of St Mary’s church in Carlton. Each part is provided with a bibliography and references.
Part 2 The Middle Anglo-Saxon period (Slides 1-35)
Part 2 describes developments during the 'Long Eighth Century', a period from AD675-AD825 which is recognized as a time of major social and economic change as organised villages began to develop from a scatter of farmsteads.

Part 3 Late Anglo-Saxon and Domesday Carlton & Chellington (Slides 1-33)
The presentation begins with the death of King Offa in 796 and continues through the mid-tenth century with the founding of St Mary's, Carlton. A section on the Domesday survey of 1085/6 provides some insight into estate ownership and land management in early medieval Carlton & Chellington.
