Beetle systematics

PI Caterino's work focuses on the systematics of histerid beetles. His work has discovered and named over 400 new species in this family, primarily in the Neotropical region, but also in North America, southeastern Asia, and Australia. Reconstructing phylogenetic relationships at the species level and higher in this group is helping to understand how various aspects of their natural history has affected their diversification.
