Fairy Tales

Classic fairy tales, handed down through generations, are in the public domain and thus easily accessed from a variety of sources. Suggested versions of fairy tales are included on each page that bring the stories alive through rich illustrations. Most of these choices preserve the original; some have adapted the tale or offer a similar story of another cultural tradition. All of them provide virtuous standards by which to form students. Click on the fairy tale for a brief summary of the plot, suggestions of virtues and themes, and other resources.

A note on authorship: Most fairy tales belong to the oral tradition, with varying versions being attributed to different authors as the tales began to be recorded. Often, those to whom the tale is attributed combined pieces of multiple versions to present the stories with which most are familiar today.
