Welcome! For centuries, fairy tales have captured the imagination and hearts of audiences. Why? Behind the guise of often simplistic heroes, truth, beauty, and goodness shine forth with all their splendor and glory. The traditional fairy tale does not leave us wondering which characters were good and which were bad. Rather, they provide heroes who conquer evil through virtue. This site offers suggestions on how to use fairy tales to teach virtue. It is hoped that it will lay the groundwork and supply the tools that will enable others to discover the depth and meaning that make classic tales truly great.
The purpose of this site is to provide teachers with a resource for catechetical instruction. Classic fairy tales offer many opportunities to teach virtues in general and the Catholic faith in particular. The themes and doctrines outlined on these pages do not represent an exhaustive use of these rich tales. C.S. Lewis insists that any children's book that appeals only to children is a bad children's book. These stories can be used with any age level, and the level of the students will determine the depth in which the virtues and doctrines are presented.
Enjoy the site, and God bless you!
