The Castro Valley Community Band welcomes new members. If you play a band instrument at an intermediate (high school) level or better, you're invited to join. Our members range in age from their teens to their nineties and come from a variety of musical backgrounds. There is no audition, but prospective players are encouraged to contact director Kathy Maier before coming to a rehearsal.
Music folders, chairs, and music stands are provided. With the exception of percussion, the band cannot provide players with instruments. However, the band can connect you with reliable local sources for renting or purchasing an instrument.
Because the Castro Valley Community Band is a program of the Castro Valley Adult School, a fee of $95 per semester is required of all band members. Players can sign up through the Adult School (link below; search for "Community Band") or at any rehearsal. The official course description reads: "If you love music and play an instrument, come join the Castro Valley Adult School Community Band! This traditional concert band performs at least four concerts per year, and is the featured band for the Annual Rowell Ranch Parade (seated ... not marching!). The band performs classical music as well as marches, show tunes, and pops. A great way to keep up your skills, develop new skills on a second instrument, and make new friends who share your musical interests. Intermediate and advanced players welcome."
The Castro Valley Community Band is a program of the Castro Valley Adult School in Castro Valley, California.
