Welcome to my classroom resources page. This page is a work in progress, and is intended to support parents and students as we explore new concepts/ skills throughout the school year.
Reading - Try some of these strategies when reading with your child! Click on the documents to enlarge them for easier reading.
Dual Entry Journals
~The process of reading is not passive. Strong readers engage with the story by making connections (text to text, text to self, or text to world), predicting future events, asking questions (and reading on to answer them), Visualizing (seeing pictures in their head or feeling emotions), and inferring (reading between the lines to understand on a deeper level).
~ A dual entry journal requires metacognition (thinking about thinking) by having students become aware of when they are using one of the above strategies, and then taking time to record the part of the story that made them 'think' along with a brief description of their thinking.
Steps of Long Division
~ The first half of the video might be helpful for understanding the steps of long division:
1. Divide
2. Multiply
3. Subtract
4. Bring Down
These steps are repeated until there are no longer any numbers left in the dividend.
