The first Carshalton Ceilidh was on 8th Feb 2014 in Ruskin Hall, Carshalton Methodist Church and have continued on a monthly basis since, except for the holiday month of August and the Covid pandemic.
They moved to the lovely and spacious Carshalton Methodist Church when the attendance surpassed the capacity of Ruskin Hall. The dances are now held in various venues in the Carshalton area.
The Wandle Ceilidh band were formed approximately one year before the first ceilidh. Its aim was to be the resident band to play for Carshalton ceilidhs. In the early days they played for the first half of the ceilidh with the caller providing recorded music for the 2nd half. Now they have sufficient repertoire to play for the entire dance.
The ceilidhs are primarily for beginner/intermediate level dancers and the callers assume no previous dance experience. However there is the occasional 'strip the willow' and more complex moves! There are family-friendly dances on Sunday afternoons and mainly adult dances on Saturday evenings.
The emphasis is on everyone having an enjoyable evening amongst a friendly crowd with live music and full instructions from a caller.
Do come along for a fun time.
