A geomorphic assessment and natural channel design component for the three watercourses of interest within the Carp River Study Area: the Carp River, Poole Creek and Feedmill Creek.
The current investigation was initiated due to environmental concerns identified in numerous studies and confirmed in the Carp River Watershed/Subwatershed Study. These concerns include degraded fish habitat, release of deleterious substances, natural area protection and connectivity, lack of a riparian zone along streams, maintenance of base flow, erosion and sedimentation, ground water use and surface flooding. The study presents watershed and subwatershed plans that provide an environmentally sound eco-system based approach to land use planning to ensure long-term ecological sustainability of the watershed and its resources. Geomorphology is a component of that plan. A geomorphic evaluation of the channel is desirable to help minimize damage to the existing aquatic habitat of the stream.
