Having finished my BSc in Mathematics (2012) and BSc in Statistics (2012) at the University of Extremadura, I have widened my academic training with a MSc in Science Research (2013) and a MSc in Formation of Teachers of Secondary Education (2014), in both of which my specialisation was Mathematics. In all the aforementioned degrees, I was awarded the maximum honours given by this university in relation to my academic performance. I obtained my PhD diploma (2018) within the PhD programme Modelling and Experimentation in Science and Technology, at the University of Extremadura. My PhD thesis entitled “Asymptotic theory of probability and statistics in branching processes” was awarded the grade “Sobresaliente Cum Laude” (maximum) and it has enabled me to obtain the Extraordinary award in the PhD studies at the University of Extremadura.
Besides being awarded the student department collaboration grant by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science during the academic year 2011/2012, I was also awarded a research predoctoral grant from the University of Extremadura during the academic year 2013/2014. I benefited from University Professor Training grant (Predoctoral Spanish FPU grant), given by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for my PhD thesis on Branching Processes at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Extremadura. I also held a researcher position at the aforementioned department, an Assistant Professor position (profesora ayudante doctor in the Spanish Education System) at the Department of Mathematics at the Autonomous University of Madrid, an Assistant Professor position (profesora ayudante doctor) and an Associate Professor (profesora contratada doctor in the Spanish Education System) at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Extremadura. Currently, I am an Associate Professor (profesora titular de universidad in the Spanish Education System) at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Extremadura. As well as these grants, my research activity has been supported by four regional research projects and four national ones.
Since 2013 I am a member of the research group Branching Processes and Their Applications in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Extremadura. Since then, I have had 49 of my works, 12 of which were invited talks, presented in national and international conferences. Moreover, I have presented my results in a total of 10 seminars in several universities. Furthermore, I have contributed to the theory of branching processes with my publications; up to now, I have coauthored 15 papers (13 of which are published in JCR-indexed journals and 1 of which are under review), 3 chapters of books, I have taken part in the edition of a book, and I am working on 2 new papers. According to the usual practice in mathematics literature, we followed the author alphabetic order in publications co-authored with members of my research group.
I have completed five research stays at foreign universities, totaling over 13 months, to collaborate with internationally renowned researchers. Specifically, during my PhD studies, I undertook two research stays at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden, under the supervision of Professor Serik Sagitov. I also completed a stay at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia (USA), under the supervision of Professor Anand N. Vidyashankar, and another at Goethe University Frankfurt in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Götz Kersting. These experiences enabled me to engage with research groups at the aforementioned institutions, resulting in the publication of at least one paper with each group. Subsequently, I carried out a postdoctoral research stay at the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne, Australia, collaborating with Dr. Sophie Hautphenne on population-size-dependent branching processes. Although the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of planned research visits, I maintained my international research activity, publishing three papers exclusively with foreign collaborators and initiating new lines of research with them. In 2024, I visited the University of Melbourne again to continue my collaboration with Dr. Hautphenne and Dr. Braunsteins.
During my PhD studies, I had the opportunity to work as a lecturer in statistics. As part of my teaching contributions, I co-authored the book Estadística Básica para Ciencias de la Salud (Basic Statistics for Health Sciences), which was published as teaching material by the Publications Office of the University of Extremadura. I have also been an active member of two teaching innovation groups, coordinated a teaching innovation project, and participated in numerous training and outreach activities organized by various universities. My teaching performance has consistently received positive feedback, as reflected in student satisfaction surveys.
In addition to my teaching activities, I have been actively involved in organizing academic events. I served on the Organizing Committee of the III, IV, V, and VI International Workshops on Branching Processes and Their Applications (2015, 2018, 2021, 2024), as well as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th International Workshops on Stochastic Processes and Their Applications (2021, 2023, 2024). I was also a member of the Organizing Committee for the 3rd Spanish Young Statisticians and Operational Researchers Meeting (2022) and the contest Diviértete con la Estadística (Enjoy Yourself with Statistics, 2016–2019, 2021–present). Additionally, I served on the Scientific Committee for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions of the Spanish Young Statisticians and Operational Researchers Meeting (2022, 2024, 2025).
From June 2022 to June 2025, I co-coordinated the working group Stochastic Processes and Their Applications of the Spanish Society for Statistics and Operations Research, together with Professor M. Dolores Ruiz-Medina.
