Our History
For more than 50 years, the Capital Area Concert Band has shared the joy of live music with the Springfield area. The band was founded in 1974 by Tom Ford, a teacher at Lanphier High School who saw the need for a group where anyone who played an instrument in their high school band could continue to play after they had graduated.
Hundreds of local musicians have been members over the years, donating their time to play in this group. Some are professionals with extensive training, while others are rediscovering their musical talents after stepping away from music for many years. A few founding members still play with the band, and members range in age from 20s-80s.
