The San Diego based Cannabis Education Project is an 501(c)(4) non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to education and outreach in communities of color related to the impact of the war on drugs, the history of marijuana criminalization and the benefits of a regulated market. The Cannabis Education Project grew out of the 2010 statewide adult use cannabis initiative (Proposition 19 ) mobilization effort in San Diego County. Local senior organizers and supporters of Proposition 19 in San Diego County have decided to continue their efforts, with the goal of identifying and cultivating leadership and support for future legalization legislation and ballot propositions. Cannabis Education Project is a diverse organization with Latino, African American and Filipino leadership and dedicated to speak to our own diverse communities about the benefits of cannabis and the harm caused by prohibition.
Our mission is to educate diverse communities on the realities and benefits of cannabis in all its forms and the failure of cannabis prohibition.
Our goal is to eliminate the racial disparities created by cannabis prohibition, reduce the violence and corruption driven by the illicit market, ensure California citizens can benefit economically from the state’s largest cash crop, and expand patient and scientific access to legitimate medical cannabis. We strive to achieve this through education, community-driven cannabis regulatory reform, and the rehabilitation and empowerment of individuals impacted by cannabis prohibition.
To engage person-to-person outreach in communities of color, to explain the facts and debunk the myths surrounding marijuana. We also aim to identify and cultivate anti-prohibition leadership in diverse communities.
