Remember there are canoes, swimming, hikes, bridge-jumping and general outdoorsy fun available at all times. Bring a Personal Floatation Device for your little kids- there are some available but best to have one that actual fits and isn’t mildewed.
Safer swimming with wristbands and swim test!
Our goal is to make it easier for all campers to recognize other campers and safe adults, and to make it easier for adults to eyeball which kids are decent swimmers and which kids might need a PFD in the water.
To make it easier for all campers to recognize other campers and safe adults, all CKWers will wear a wristband in one of two colors:
All CKW campers who pass the swim test will wear a green wristband.
Campers who have not yet passed the swim test wear a pink wristband. (Campers have multiple opportunities to take the swim test.)
SWIM TEST:
Jump/dive from dock, swim the crawl back and forth for a few minutes, tread water for a couple minutes, swim back to dock and climb out.
The goal is to make sure tcampers can tread water/swim around /climb out even if they are a little tired.
If anyone wants to be a Swim Test Official, email Tedra.
All kids in boats need PFD's, and adults should have them too. Even if you are a good swimmer, if you had to jump in the water to help someone, a PFD would be good to have.
