3rd Day
- Day trip to the villages and valleys of Leon Mountains. Visit the Valporquero Caves (a family activity in one of the most beautiful caves of Europe. The visit comprises 4 km of galleries with roof heights reaching 40 m). On the way there, you will travel through stunning landscapes including the “Hoces de Vega Cervera” (impressive gorges).
2nd Day
Morning:- Visit the church of San Isidoro, a romanesque building dating from the XIth century. Don’t miss the best romanesque paintings in Spain, they are part of the royal pantheon decorations and actually belong to the museum.
Afternoon:- Short trip to the mozárabe monastery of San Miguel de Escalada (Xth century). It is 25 Km from León, crta. León-Valladolid, take the Puente Villarente diversion. - Visit a fish farm in Castrillo del Porma (with organised children fishing activities).
Night:- Have dinner in a wine cellar, a traditional construction of the area: The most famous cellars are in Quintana Raneros (8 Km) and Valdebimbre (25 Km).
Morning:- The main tourist attraction in the city is the Cathedral. It is a fine example of gothic art finished in the XIIIth century. It also has some of the most impressive glass works of all Europe.
- Visit the city. Starting in the Cathedral walk down the calle Ancha, have a look to the palacio de la Diputación and the palacio de Botines (built by Gaudí), then continue south through the calle Ordoño II untill you reach Guzman’s square. Finally turn right and visit the Parador of San Marcos with its museum and impressive cloister.
Night from 21:00 till late:- The old quarter (known as the Barrio Húmedo) is the centre of nightlife activity. Walk around the Plaza del Grano and the city walls and either try some of the traditional tapas or have dinner in one of the multiple restaurants.
1er Día
4th Day- You shouldn’t miss the roman city of Astorga in the Camino de Santiago, (50 Km from Leon), with visits to the Cathedral, the Palacio del Obispo (other example of Gaudí´s architecture), and the typical maragata village of “Castrillo de los Polvazares” (3 km from Astorga), where you can taste the traditional “cocido maragato”.
