Listen to my podcast on Cities and Social Cohesion, providing a general overview of some of my research projects, dedicated to a large audience (in French, with subtitles in English) - June 2023
I organized a workshop on "Neighborhoods and Local Interactions" on May 25-26th, as part of my ANR "SOCOCITY" project and the Opening Economics chair.
By 2050, 86.7 percent of high income countries’ population will live in an urban area (United Nations estimates). It is thus critical to figure out the conditions making cities socially integrated places and cohesive communities which can open the way towards economic security and stability. In particular, the organization of the urban space (location and quality of buildings, transportation infrastructures, public parks…) may shape the nature of social encounters and hence influence the social and economic sphere. The purpose of this project is precisely to investigate whether and how urban infrastructure and amenities can foster social cohesion and lead to economically and socially sustainable cities, in the French context. In order to study this unexplored relationship, the project relies on very rich and local data, so as to get new insights on the underlying mechanisms.

In line with the SOCOCITY project, and as a part of it, I am coordinating a new collaborative project at PSE entitled "Urban Economics, History and Society", which started in September 2020. This project was initiated in collaboration with Gabrielle Fack, Laurent Gobillon and Miren Lafourcade.
This project aims at studying urban issues through historical and societal dimensions, with an interdisciplinary approach. Focus is made on the use of new geolocated data and associated methods. This project gathers researchers in urban economics, history, sociology and geography. They meet each month for a thematic workshop, and each year for an annual interdisciplinary conference with invited scholars from France and all over the world.
You can find a description of the proposed project here.
The schedule of the meetings is available here.
