1. Players must be residents of Camelot East Village in order to participate in the league.
2. Each team will designate a captain and a team name. Captains will be responsible to field a team of four players for every game. If any player is unable to attend, the captain shall draw from the list of substitutes or recruit an eligible non-roster player to fill a vacancy. A substitute player shall not play more than one time for the same team during a season. League players cannot be used as substitutes. A non-roster player may be selected from the spectators in emergency cases. If a replacement is unavailable, a team may play with three players with one of the three throwing the fourth ball on a rotating basis. A team showing up with only two players will forfeit the game.
3. Substitutes for playoff games and championship games will be assigned by the Bocce committee.
4. If any team is unable to play on their scheduled date, they should contact their opponent to make arrangements to play the game on a day convenient to both teams. Non-scheduled games shall be played a week prior to, or the week following the scheduled date.
5. Games are played with all players at the same end of the court. After the frame is completed, all players go to the opposite end to begin the next frame. A team may request that their opponents agree to split their teams with two players located at either end of the court. This is to accommodate those players with disabilities.
6. The team listed first on the schedule plays on Court V (closest to tennis court). A coin toss will determine the team that starts play. After the starting team is determined, the second team will choose the color of the bocce balls they wish to throw.
7. All balls shall be thrown underhanded to roll the ball in play. Volo shooting (lofting the ball in the air) is not permitted. Ball cannot be thrown higher than waist-high.
8. The starting team will choose a player to throw the pallino. After the pallino is thrown, the same player will throw the first bocce ball. The purpose of the game is to get your team's bocce balls as close as possible to the pallino. After the first player has thrown the first bocce ball, this ball is considered "inside" because this ball is the closest to the pallino. At this time, the opposing team will throw their balls until they succeed in placing a ball closest to the pallino. Whichever team is considered "inside", this team will forfeit its turn for throwing bocce balls until the opposing team has played all their balls or succeeds in placing a ball closer to the pallino.
9. The area inside the sidelines and end board define the court's perimeter. A thrown ball must cross the midpoint line to be in play. At any time, if the thrower of the pallino does not reach the center line, or throws the pallino past the foul line at the opposite end of the Bocce Court , the pallino is passed on to the opposing team to throw.
10. If, during the course of play the pallino is pushed over the foul line, it will be replaced in the center of the court in front of the foul line. If a bocce ball crosses the foul line, it is considered to be out of play.
11. After all players have thrown their bocce balls, the team that is "inside or closest" will be awarded points. One point will be awarded to this team for every ball that is closer to the pallino than the closest competitor's ball. If a ball from each team is equidistant to the pallino, no points will be awarded in that frame. After the points are awarded, the frame is completed and a new frame is started. A team may have a fixed line-up or player positions can be rotated within the team. All players must throw a ball in each frame. A game is won when a team reaches 15 points.
12. If a player throws out of turn (blue throws instead of red or vice-versa), the out-of-turn ball will be removed, and play will continue with the remaining balls as they lay.
13. Team captains may call for a measurement at any time. Measurements should be completed by both captains only.
14. All players shall remain behind the foul line when throwing their ball.
15. Games shall be completed within the scheduled hour. In the event of a tie, the next score wins.
16. The team captain is responsible to ensure that after the match, the court is prepared for the next match and is in good playing condition.
17. The team captain is responsible for submitting the score after each match. a score sheet is available at scheduled games. Scores can also be emailed to cevbocce@gmail.com
Throughout the season, a spirit of fair play will be expected.
