Senior Exam

Prepare for the Sailboat Written Exam:

• • There are several recommended sailing books which can be used including Colegate's Basic Sailing.

    • • Additional source...

• Check with the Rear Commodore about arranging a "Senior Study Group".

  • Understand sail trim and how to make adjustments.

  • The exam covers both dinghys and keelboats.

Take the Sailboat Written Exam: Offered four times a year at the General Membership Meetings:

• • 5:00 PM -7:00 PM if the meeting is held at the Berkeley Yacht Club (BYC) at 7:00 PM

  • 4:00 PM -6:00 PM at the Cal Sailing Club Clubhouse if the meeting is not held at the BYC

  • The Executive Committee generally decides on and announces the location and date of each meeting several weeks before it is held.

  • Exceptions can be arranged *in person* for candidates who have been signed off on their Senior project.

Practical Dinghy and Practical Keel Boat Exams:

• • Arranged with members of the Rating Committee when there is sufficient wind.
