I teach courses in financial economics and macroeconomics. A student recently summed up my approach: “Stroup describes their role as that of a facilitator educator.” In short, my goal is to foster a learning community where students can learn with and from each other, not just from me.
Over the years, I have mentored more than 60 student research projects, and my teaching was first recognized at Vanderbilt University with the Rendigs Fels Award for Excellence in Teaching. One line from a learner has stayed with me: “Professor Stroup set up real challenges in their class and trusted me to reason my way to the answer.” This person understood how I believe in them enough to offer genuine challenges and to support them along the way.
