As part of the Think Globally, Act Globally project, CALA Northeast chapter, in collaboration with Queens Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and New York Public Library hosted four visiting Chinese Library IT managers. On the morning of June 23, 2010, the guests visited Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza. Accompanying the guests were CALA Northeast Chapter Vice President, Lina Ding, and past President Maria Fung. After the BPL visit, car service took the visitors back to Flushing, where they had lunch with three CALA Northeast Chapter members.
As part of the Think Globally, Act Globally U.S.-China librarian collaboration project, CALA Northeast Chapter, in collaboration with Queens Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and New York Public Library hosted four visiting Chinese librarians, June 19-25. An afternoon program was held at the Flushing Branch of the Queens Library, where the visitors met with CALA Northeast Chapter members and Queens Library staff, and gave presentations about public library development in China. At 3:30 pm, Fred J. Gitner, Coordinator, New Americans Program & Special Services, Queens Library, and Lina Ding, Vice President of the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) gave opening remarks to welcome the visiting Chinese guests.
Guest speaker Ms. Wu Yue briefly introduced the UIUC-IMLS grant project, and talked about the positive impact this project had in China, followed by presentations by three other guest speakers about public library development in China, specifically, Nanjin Library, Tianjin Library, and Heilongjiang Provincial Library. The guest speakers answered questions from the audience and exchanged ideas with librarians present.
Refreshments were provided by the Brooklyn Public Library in the mornig, and by Queens Library in the afternoon . After the Flushing program, CALA Northeast Chapter board members Lina Ding, Judy Xiao, and Hung-Yun Chang took the guests to dinner. Mr. Change will coordinate guests’ visit to the New York Public Library for June 24 and the evening’s entertainment for a Broadway show before the guests head to Washington D.C. on June 25 for the ALA Annual Conference.
