ABOUT THE BETHANY FUND:
The Bethany Fund is a memorial scholarship fund at First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, Maryland that was set up in remembrance of Bethany Youkers. Her family set up the memorial fund for the purpose of financially supporting youth group members who, without scholarship funding, would not be able to attend and benefit from the camps and conferences the youth group attends.
The hosts of the Butterflies and Bell Boots model horse show have chosen The Bethany Fund as a beneficiary of 50% of any profit the show may bring in, to honor Bethany Youkers. By choosing to benefit the Bethany Fund, it will continue to allow youth to participate in camps and conferences that without financial help, wouldn’t be able to attend these life enriching events.
ABOUT BIG EAST AKITA RESCUE (B.E.A.R.):
B.E.A.R. is a new 501(c)3 nonprofit, hands-on, Akita rescue group covering the NY, NJ, and PA metropolitan region and the Northeast, helping unwanted, abused, and neglected Akitas in need. BEAR was founded in 2011 by a small group of concerned Akita owners and volunteers that wanted to help the breed due to the number of Akitas in need. Their highest priority is to save, rehabilitate, and find forever homes for URGENT Akitas in area shelters; however, they also address a wide variety of Akita services such as educating potential owners, providing referrals, lending support to Akita owners, and making evaluations of Akitas in private homes and shelters. They are active members of the national parent breed club, The Akita Club of America, and assist with gathering information against breed-specific legislation. They help as many Akitas as they can but sadly no one can save them all: there are too many. It is their hope that one day there will be no more abandoned, abused, neglected, or unwanted Akitas.
B.E.A.R.’s Mission: finding good homes for abandoned Akitas. Most of their dogs come from local animal shelters after being found as strays or turned in by their owners. When B.E.A.R. is notified of an Akita in a shelter, a volunteer will evaluate the dog. If the volunteer determines that the dog is a good candidate for adoption and B.E.A.R. has room to foster another Akita, they will pull the Akita from the shelter. The rescued dog is then immediately taken to an approved veterinarian to be wormed, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. After being released from the vet, the lucky Akita will live in a foster home until a suitable "forever home" can be found. In the foster home, the Akita will undergo some obedience training and socialization.
Since being established, B.E.A.R. has helped save over 400 Akitas but there are many more in need daily. The hosts of the Butterflies and Bell Boots - Performance Edition model horse show have chosen Big East Akita Rescue as a beneficiary of 50% of any profit the show may bring in, to help further save Akitas in need. By choosing to benefit Big East Akita Rescue, it will allow B.E.A.R. to continue to save abandoned Akitas in need, educate potential owners, and provide support to current Akita owners.
