The Bharathiar University named after the great visionary and revolutionary National Poet, Subramania Bharathi was established at the foothills of Maruthamalai, Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February 1982, with the jurisdiction over the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and  The Nigiris.

     The University’s lofty motto is “Educate To Elevate”. Every effort is harnessed to realize Poet Bharathi’s dream of making Educational Institutions temples of learning. It is the aim of the University to participate in the task of inculcating necessary Knowledge, Skills and Creative attitudes and values among the youth of this country, to contribute more effectively towards establishing an equitable social and economic order and the secular ideals of our Nation.

     Knowledge is the Resource for Global Competitiveness. To enrich the research activities of the rural economically backward students and to elevate them through education, Government of Tamilnadu inaugurated Bharathiar University Post Graduate Extension Centre at Erode on 06.05.2013. This Centre contours the youth by affording resourceful education as an effective medium and tool to enhance the social and economic development.  

    The PG Extension and Research Centre is temporarily located in a serene surrounding in the Palanisamy College of Arts  campus at Perundurai, Erode. It is accessibly linked with all the parts of the city through frequent transport services to commute.
