The Society was started around 1981 by a group of residents who successfully mounted an appeal to save the Bulwell Dovecote.
It now provides a meeting place for people with an interest in history and in particular, the history and heritage of the area around Bulwell, to meet to further their interests and to continue to fight to save Bulwell's rich heritage.
We provide a regular programme of events, usually a talk or presentation on a subject of local or historical interest. Most of the talks are illustrated by photographs and/or videos or by using props and other materials brought along by the presenter.
We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7:30pm until around 9:00pm, February through to July and September to December, usually at Bulwell Riverside Centre, Main Street, Bulwell although we do have occasional visits to other places of interest. We do not meet in August and our January event is usually a members meal at a local restaurant.
We are an open and inclusive society and actively encourage visitors to come along to any of our meetings at Riverside, no booking is required, just turn up, you are assured of a warm welcome and an enjoyable evening. If the door is locked when you arrive, please ring the doorbell and security will let you in.
Annual membership of the society costs just £5.00 (correct as at our AGM in Jul 2019) and there is a small admission charge for meetings, currently £2:00 for members or visitors and tea, coffee and biscuits are usually available at no cost after the meeting.
