Thunderbirds are Go!
Gerry Anderson Exhibition
City of Edinburgh Art Centre 1986
New Dawn Fades issue 6 February 1987
Edinburgh City Council were kind / wise enough to stage an exhibition of Gerry Anderson models and other memorabilia at the "City Of Edinburgh Art Centre" from the 1st of March to the 5th of April 1986. I attended the exhibition and took a few photos some colour others black & white.
Like a lot of my generation I grew up watching Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Fireball XL5 and other Gerry Anderson puppet series from an early age. I loved almost all the series apart from maybe Joe 90 which didn't seem to be generally as popular with my peers. After the puppet series were repeated a couple of times and the live action series died out with Space 1999 in the early to mid seventies there wasn't a lot of "Anderson" about in the next decade so when Edinburgh City council decided to stage an exhibition of Gerry Anderson series original models and other memorabilia I was quite excited and loaded my trusty Fujica ST705 with a roll of Ilford colour slide film and took along a roll of trusty HP5 for the inevitable overspill.
After completing my photographic mission I wrote a brief account of the exhibition which was published along with some of the photos in the Edinburgh Universities Science Fiction Society magazine "New Dawn Fades" (issue 6, February 1987).
Contributors to this particular issue produced by Paul Cockburn were rewarded with a colour cover, plebs received B&W copies only. There were other articles in this particular issue based around the Anderson theme including a review of the "MIME THEATRE PROJECT" "Thunderbirds FAB" show and a review of the "Guardian Lecture" held at the Edinburgh "Filmhouse Cinema", which I attended. Both these reviews were by Paul Cockburn.
I hope that it might be a help to anyone modelling these subjects. Now let me get back to that SEVANS Captain Blue kit that I left lying around sometime in the last ten years.
