There are no minimum caliber requirements to shoot the BUG match and a lot fewer rules and procedures to learn than other popular competitions.
There are four divisions:
Backup Pistol: Must fit in a 5.25″ x 7″ box (must be smaller than a Glock 19)
Backup Revolver: J-frame or similar size
Hideout Gun: Must fit in a 4" x 5.25" box
Big Five: Semi-auto or revolver that does not meet the size requirements above. Must start with five rounds in the magazine/cylinder.
For safety, BUG stages start with the handgun safely staged or held at low ready. Sometimes drawing the gun is simulated using a blue gun to exchange for the pre-staged firearm.
Matches are usually held the second Saturday of every month, and they cost $15 cash to shoot.
There will be 4 stages usually requiring no more than 15 rounds each to complete and matches start at 7:30 am (please be there by 7:00 am to sign in).
New shooters are welcome!
