For those who tweet actuarial things, a word of caution. #SOA is not only the tag for Society of Actuaries, but also the more popular, and often trending show on FX, Sons of Anarchy.

Now, while the first image that comes to mind for actuaries is not a scruffy motorcycle rider, there are some commonalities:

1. Both the Society and Sons are structured organizations

2. They both have a purpose to a broader public

3. Both have acute dealings with mortality

4. Both have to understand relevant laws and regulations

5. The Son’s patch is a grim reaper with a crystal ball…(seems very actuarial) . The patch also features an A with a circle on it. Actuaries also like to modify the letter A, with bars and dots and whatnot.
