About Scouting

This is the traditional Scouting experience for young men in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement, and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. There are currently 855,000 Boy Scouts and 485,000 adult volunteers in the United States.

While there is guidance from experienced leaders, Scouts take their own lead, exploring places they've never been as they dive into the rugged world of outdoor adventure. With a spirit of teamwork, they pack up their Scout gear and their sense of adventure and dive into the learning and excitement that comes from being in the fellowship of Scouting.

Scouting has a lot to offer, but don't let the 130+ merit badges scare you away. With the exposure to a uniquely hands-on learning experience through earning merit badges that reflect each Scout's budding interests, they unlock a world of discovery around them and forge their path for the future. By culminating the Scouting experience through earning the rank of Eagle, and accomplishing a service project imagined and executed by the Scout themself, they can prove their leadership skills and gain the confidence needed to excel in life, and in the world at large.

Scouts earn their ranks as they complete the rank requirements.  The Scout earns the rank at their own pace, not by age or grade.  A scout can earn multiple ranks quickly, while others may go at a more leisurely pace that works with their after school activities.  There is no prescribed age or grade in which the boy is supposed to advance.  A youth can join scouts in any grade and have a successful experience in Scouts. Most Scouts in Troop 13 balance schedules with Sports, Theatre, Music, and Faith programs.
