We paired up with the AOL Scouts from Pack 114 (who are getting ready to crossover into BSA) and went caving. It might be 30 degrees outside, but it's always a balmy 50 degrees inside the caves. Don't be fooled by how clean the boys look in this photo, their coveralls were good and dirty when they emerged from underground!
Our annual ski trip to Snowshoe, West Virginia, was another huge success. We lucked out and caught the snow and cold temperatures right before the weather warmer up and the snow turned to slush. This is the one trip each year where we "rough it" and stay in condo instead of tents!
Back in October, some of our Scouts trekked the Priest Hike and were able to camp next to some great views. The campsite was literally ten or so yards away from where this picture was taken.
In September, we traveled to Norfolk, VA, for our False Cape bike trip and overnight. False Cape State Park is the northernmost portion of the Outer Banks, and the southernmost tip of the Virginia shore. After the 10-mile bike ride in, we enjoyed relaxing times, ocean swimming, and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.
Recently, a few of our Scouts took advantage of an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and traveled to one of BSA's four High-Adventure Bases, Philmont. They hiked and camped out for two weeks in the New Mexico wilderness.
Our whitewater rafting trip is an annual favorite. Every June, we spend two nights in West Virginia's New River Valley, conquering rapids from class I to V.
