Subject: Embark Update on Brownie’s Test - Getting close!
Hi,
We are getting close to getting Brownie’s results to you! Brownie’s DNA is in the lab undergoing genotyping now, the last step before the data is sent to our genomists. Our genomicists are looking at over 200,000 genetic addresses in Brownie’s genome to discover more about your dog than you ever thought possible. For more details about what we are doing with your dog’s DNA, you can read on below. Brownie's results should be ready within two to three weeks. We will continue to update you as we explore each and every chromosome — and your dog has 78 of them, unlike you and I who have only 46 each!
So, what is going on with your dog’s DNA sample? Read on for the details:
In order to figure out what genetic letter your dog has at over 200,000 different spots in their genome, Embark scientists are analyzing millions of copies of your dog’s DNA using our advanced genetic “chip”. The “chip”, more accurately called a microarray, is Embark’s core proprietary technology. Designed by Embark scientists, it will allow Embark and other researchers all over the world to make exciting new discoveries in dog health. Embark scientists have distilled years of knowledge about the links between genes and breeds, diseases and traits in dogs, and have added many special probes (essentially genetic addresses) to the chip. The chip tells the machine which genetic addresses to look up, and then the machine takes apart your dog’s DNA at those locations to reveal whether your dog inherited an A, T, C, or G at that exact location from each parent. This information is what our genomicists use to understand your dog at the detailed chromosome level.
If you have opted in to contribute to research, Brownie’s genetic data will power new advances in dog health and keep advancing the science of dog wellness. Very cool!
We are excited to be able to give you Brownie’s results soon,
Team Embark
I'm upset with Sundae so I'm going to take it out on my clone.
I don't know what's going on.
Thursday, 7/7
Sundae's DNA test result came back. She is 50% Shih Tzu and 50% small Poodle. She also isn't a carrier of any genetic disease.
Sunday, 7/10
Sundae doesn't like it when it's too bright. She needs sunglasses.
Wednesday, 7/13
Sundae really wanted to eat here.
I knew I was a 100% purebred. I'm also not a carrier of any genetic disease. I'm more than two times more wolfiness than Sundae. I guess that's why I've tried to bite people.
Thursday, 7/14
Sundae thinks that's how she can get on Brody's bus.
Friday, 7/15
I like being in front so I can give butt.
We pee a Mickey.
Tuesday, 7/19
Sundae loves going to drive thru.
Sundae is getting ready to go LIVE on WGN 9 morning news.
Not fair! Sundae got to go out and was able to get on TV and be famous.
When I don't want to walk anymore I just put on breaks and don't move my paws. I don't care who's looking.
Wednesday, 7/20
OMG! I can't believe Sundae was laying there.
Sundae got tired of going up and down the stairs so she decided to watch things from the top of the stairs.
This is a good place for a picture.
We came to pick up Brody from camp. He's in group C.
After Brody came home I had to babysit him.
Friday, 7/22
When Sundae's in the dog house she has to sit in the back. The front is first class and the back is coach.
Sunday, 7/24
I need privacy!
I think there's always space for me even when Brody gets to the chair first.
Tuesday, 7/26
We just got our haircut. Are we prettier?
We deserve the pillows because we had a long day. It's hard work looking pretty.
.
Saturday, 7/30
We've been very tired because the weather has been very hot and humid so by the end of the day we're wasted.
