Komal Yasmin

Komal joined the lab in 2018

Komal is a Wellcome trust funded DPhil student. She graduated first in her class of BSc in microbiology and molecular genetics from university of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. She then joined Masters program at Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS) where she researched on developmental epigenetic pathways in Drosophila and found it absolutely fascinating. Driven by her passion for developmental epigenetics she applied to DPhil Chromosome and developmental biology program at the University of Oxford and then joined Brockdroff lab. Here, Komal is enthusiastic about studying CpG island methylation during X chromosome by combining molecular biology wet-lab techniques and NGS data analysis.

Komal is keen to participate in scientific communication opportunities at the university. She has been involved in science outreach symposia at her college and currently serves as a senior editor at Phenotype Oxford, an Oxford University Press supported journal published by the University of Oxford medical science division. She takes great joy in teaching and tutored molecular genetics and biochemistry for New, Christ Church an Oriel colleges. She also served as the graduate vice president of the University of Oxford Pakistan society which she sought as a medium to network with graduate student community from back home.
