2019 Police Sport UK Indoor Sports Ten Pin Bowling review

This was the 17th year of competition at Potters. The completion again was held at Lowestoft and will continue for future years at this venue. Unlike last year where only 3 200 scores bowled there were over 20 bowled this year. The format continued as last year with the finalists in the round robin having their qualifying scores wiped out.

Open Singles

There were 11 competitors this year and Mark Scott quickly got into his stride with 626 over his first 3 games, closely followed by Steve Howat last years runner up with 599. quickly got into his stride. After the six game qualifying there were no surprises but the Met contingent of Jim Kenny and Dan Meaton withdrew due to injury. The round robin competition saw Steve start strongly winning his first 2 games with 200 + games, it was left to everyone else to chase Steve. As it was Steve won 5 out of 6 matches and drawing his other match. Mark Scott courtesy of a high game of 242 fended off the chasing pack to finish runner up.

Ladies Singles

There were only 3 competitors again this year and so the title would be decided by highest pinfall over the 6 games. It became clear after the first few games that the title was going to go to Police Scotland to either Jackie Docherty or Claire Pirie, however in the last 3 games Jackie pulled ahead to win 874 – 757, with Faye Hedley a gallant 3rd

Runner Up: Claire Pirie – Police Scotland

Open Doubles

There were 7 doubles teams competing this year the top 4 qualifiers would go into a round robin play off.

After the initial 6 games qualifier, the Metropolitan police (2116)were ahead of Sussex(2052) with Police Scotland (2047) breathing down their neck. With only a 3 game round robin it was imperative to get off to a good start. After the first game Police Scotland opened up a 80 pin lead over the others, a lead they would not relinquish. It was a battle for 2nd place and game down to the last game which the Met courtesy of a 380 game finished as runners up
