The BPFA was founded in 1983 by like minded individuals from around the UK police family who had a love of flying and worked in the police. After several years of unofficial meet ups and fly-ins by police staff from different forces, the idea was had to create an official association for the police family to participate in flying and aviation related events, and thus in 1983 the BPFA was formed. The BPFA aim is to promote and encourage cordial relationships between UK police forces and between the individual members of those forces through a mutual interest in flying and to organise sporting, touring and social events.
As we are all part of all the police family (serving or retired) we are acutely aware how stressful the job can be in today's times and how our love and passion for flying and aviation can be a great stress reliever doing something we all enjoy.
With that in mind, the BPFA is a group of friendly and relaxed members who just want to enjoy their flying, safe in the company of other people from the same work background who understand and empathise with each other.
The BPFA organsises fly-outs and overnight trips with its members to fly to airfields throughout the UK and friendly BPFA competitions. During these fly outs we can have BBQ's, social events and dinners, all great fun!
