Process

1- Divide in 5 groups of five or six students.

You will spend four lessons working on this subject.

2- Each group must choose a period of the history of the English Literature.

3- Click on the chosen period and work out the suggested questions together. Write down the answers in the attached document.

A- OLD AND MIDDLE ENGLISH

B- RENAISSANCE AND RESTORATION

C- THE RISE OF THE NOVEL - 18TH CENTURY

D- ROMANTICISM AND VICTORIAN TIMES

E- 20TH CENTURY

4-Now every student individually must write a summary of either the biography of a writer or the plot of one of the literary works mentioned.

5- Put the essays together with the ones of the rest of the students in your group and create a cover for your “brochure” of the period.

The cover must contain at least a representative image and a quotation of a writer you liked.

These web sites might be useful for this:

6- Finally all the students will present the writer or the work they have studied about to the rest of the class orally.

As a follow-up activity, we will watch a film based on a relevant English novel and you will read an abridged adaptation of another.

To fulfil these tasks you will need to use a dictionary:

Although every question is linked with the appropriate websites where you will certainly find the information demanded, here you are also some useful on-line encyclopedias:
