When sizing your images for our internal monthly competitions ensure that the maximum sizes in “pixels” is maintained. This applies to Landscape and Portrait style images.

I.E. Maximum WIDTH = 1920 pixels

AND

Maximum HEIGHT = 1080 pixels

Either or both may be LESS but Neither is to be exceeded.

This allows for an Aspect Ratio of 16 x 9 (The normal TV/ Monitor WideScreen

At this aspect ratio the image will fill our TV screen for maximum effect.

This is purely optional. The Image may not suit this aspect ratio, and any standard or custom aspect ratio may be used.

EG.10 x 8 , 3 x 2 (6”x4’ snapshot size) , 5 x 4 or 1 x 1

Custom = any aspect ratio you may want PROVIDED

Max width is 1920 pixels AND Max height is 1080 pixels

To CHANGE the aspect ratio, usually a CROP will be necessary

The easiest way in practice to resize is to look at the height and set that to 1080

And make sure that “maintain Aspect ratio” is selected before you do.

NOW look at the width, if it is at 1920 or any value LESS, then all is good.

IF the width happens to be greater than 1920, (maybe in a panorama shot)

THEN set the width at 1920 and the height will be less than 1080.  All is good.

Resizing is easy in Photoshop and many other programs too.

There is also a very simple and quick way with a small program “PIXresizer”

This can be copied from our DropBox. Look for a folder “PC Utilities” and folder PIXresizer which has the readme file and the .setup.exe file as well.

OR bring along a USB stick to the next meeting to get a copy.
