Welcome to the Bribie Island Bicycle User Group website!
The Bribie Island Bicycle User Group (Bribie BUG) was formed to provide an outlet for locals to get together, have a good time, promote fitness and discover new places on Bribie Island and surrounding areas and now has about 90 members! Bribie Island IS the perfect place to cycle! It has beautiful beaches and the ideal subtropical climate. We also aim to address issues that need to be fixed in the community such as infrastructure, cycle awareness and improvement to cycle paths.
Do you or your bike need more exercise?
Bribie BUG has rides every Saturday morning, either on the island or to Ningi/Sandstone Point, leaving the Information Centre located on Benabrow Avenue, Bellara at 8.00am.
Rides take 2 to 3 hours (including coffee) and cover about 20-25km at a moderate pace to suit those participating. All cyclists welcome. Contact Bob or Joyce Newell (3408 7743) or just turn up at the Information Centre before 8am.
Monday morning is our 'Milk Run' where riders join us and drop off wherever they want on a 24 km ride around Bribie. For further information, contact Peter Crawford (3408 9292).
We also have an Early Birds ride on Wednesday mornings leaving the Information Centre at 6:30 am in winter (May to August) and 6:00 am in summer (September to April). These are about an hour through the bush, beach, and streets of Banksia Beach with the option of coffee or the Laughing Group afterwards.
Contact Joyce on 3408 7743 or email: Joyce.Newell@bigpond.com
We also often have other rides and social activities on and off the Island, which are publicised through our free email list. Please send an email to email@example.com if you would like to be added to this list.
We look forward to seeing you on a ride!
Next meeting:Contact the BUG for details on the next meeting. Meetings are generally held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the Bribie Island Library.
Other upcoming Bribie BUG events:
The Bribie BUG have organised some even more fantastic rides and events. Contact Bob Newell on the above number if you are keen to join on any of these!
Bribie BUG will be hosting Ride Bribie Island 2016 on Sunday, 23 October from 8am at Apex Park (behind Seaside Museum), South Esplanade, Bongaree.
This year we are asking riders to pre-register for catering purposes at least a few days in advance, by either sending an email to Bribie BUG or phoning Peter Crawford on 3408 9292, but if that is not possible, we will still be pleased to see anyone who just turns up on the day. As before, registration will open at 7.30am and we again ask riders to register at least 10 minutes before your ride starts.
There will be free entry to rides of 40km (8am - mainly on road/average speed 20kph), 25km (9am - cycle paths and roads) and 10km (9.30am - mainly cycle paths). Once again there will be a sausage sizzle at the finish for a $2 donation and other post-ride activities with some unusual bicycles on display. As usual, donations to World Vision will be welcomed. This year's event will also feature a GPS Treasure Hunt Ride.
More information will follow nearer the time but please note this date in your diary now, if you have not already done so. Your committee hopes that as many members as possible will come along on the day to support your club on our biggest day of the year.
Hope to see you there!
