False Creek
board book by T&T available at Read Leaf Books.  The work of T&T reflects on ideas of sustainability, green architecture and technological progress. Their artworks frequently include elements of natural systems such as solar power and organic filters in conjunction with recycled and reconfigured technology. In their usual whimsical yet astute way, T&T, the two artists (and authors) of this book, have imagined a future in their art where the hubris of progress and civilization have been replaced by a new confident relationship between art, technology and nature reliant on an artistic and stylistic gleaning of the past. What better way to symbolize this new confident relationship then by creating a book that balances the old with the young, with a board book for both adults and kids?

Installed in HSBC’s main office building in downtown Vancouver, the exhibition that the art from this book comes from, comprises three sculptural assemblages, a panoramic print and a children’s colouring centre, all designed by T&T, who temporarily transfor

med the bank’s public atrium into an optimistic post-apocalyptic environment.

This book showcases images from T & T's 2010 exhibition  and combines them with single words such as "Day" or Night." The use of single words and images that represent the words is characteristic of board books, which teach young words basic words and concepts. This book can be used with younger children to do just that. However, these images can be read at a deeper level as well.  Click on the book cover to visit the Read Leaf website.  For more information click here
