Both Brent and Berniece have been abundantly blessed in their lives, not only with each other and by all of you – our friends and family – but also with good health, great jobs, nice places to live, and more than enough possessions to fill a household. Thus, in lieu of gifts, we humbly request that you make a donation in our name to either (or both) of the charities below, which are close to our hearts. While we understand that you may prefer to give us something more tangible, please believe that we are sincere in saying that we will treasure these donations as if they were for us personally. We may only have one chance in our lifetime to make such a significant contribution to these causes we care so deeply about, and we’re incredibly honored for the opportunity to use our wedding to pass along some of the blessings of our lives to others. Besides, when was the last time that you purchased a wedding gift that was tax deductable?? And in any case, these two causes are the sum total of our registry, so you’re stuck! <insert winking smiley emoticon> If you feel strongly about giving us something tangible, please consider (in addition to a donation) a card with a personal message or something small and/or handmade for a keepsake. Thanks very much for helping us to start our lives together in the spirit of giving!

OTB (Outside the Bowl)
Outside the Bowl (OTB) was started by Jae and Debra Evans, a couple that attended Brent’s (and soon Berniece’s) church, North Coast Church in Vista, CA (www.northcoastchurch.com). The Evans’ vision began humbly in 2007 when they began feeding a modest group of children with whom they were conducting a Bible study in South Africa. Word soon spread among a populace hungry in both body and soul, and the numbers soon multiplied. Six years later, with the support of the church and other partners, OTB has served over 7 million meals in “super kitchens” located amid some of the poorest corners of the world in South Africa, Mexico, Haiti, and Colombia. One sixth of the world’s population goes to bed undernourished every night, and OTB is passionately and compassionately working to change this dynamic in a very direct way by simply feeding them with love and care. By meeting the most basic of human needs in the communities in which the organization is active, OTB is fulfilling the most fundamental of the Lord’s commands: to be His hands and feet in the world, in selfless service to others.
ISP (International Service Projects) at CBU (California Baptist University)
Berniece has participated in the International Service Projects at California Baptist University four times. She led students to Southeast Asia in 2007, 2008, and 2009 and traveled to Rwanda with the faculty in 2011. You will probably see some of the ISP students at the wedding! The ISP program at CBU teaches students and their leaders to serve effectively in various local and international communities. The service on these projects offers students opportunities to share their faith in Christ, challenge others to become followers of Christ, and integrate a life of service in all of their professional and social goals. One of the most significant goals, set by Office of Mobilization at CBU, is to send at least 10% of the students that participate in ISP to work full time internationally. Your donations would help more college students participate in ISP, grow in their faith, and give good news throughout the world.
