BES Education strives for a seamless interplay between our research into teaching, learning and information flow; our programs; and our collaborations among scientists, managers, policy makers, educators, students and the public. Sustainability and adaptive processes are both a topical focus and an outcome for our work. We seek to understand how schools and other information systems adapt to global change and rising societal interest in sustainability.
BES is the founding partner in the Baltimore Partnership for Environmental Science Literacy (BPESL). BPESL grew out of a 5 year, NSF-supported project titled, Pathways to Environmental Science Literacy, and included scientists and educators from BES, Towson University, Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, and 3 other Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) programs across the nation. BPESL has since grown to include many local, regional and national organizations and agencies contributing to the goals of BES Education. Our focus is to nurture collaborations (both formal and informal) to increase environmental science literacy in the Baltimore region and beyond. New partners are always welcome and encouraged to participate in the BPESL.
