Tursdale NUM Mechanics Banner 1985

Since 2010, Bowburn Banner Group has also been the custodian of the banner commissioned by the NUM Mechanics working at Tursdale NCB Workshops in 1985 – immediately after the 1984-85 Miners’ strike.

This banner has been paraded with Bowburn’s Centenary Banner and Children’s Banner on Durham Miners’ Gala Day every July since then.

The banner was produced by Bearpark Artists Co-operative – like the Bowburn Children’s Banner.

It is also kept in Bowburn Community Centre – though currently in its History & Heritage Room, not in a display cabinet in the main body of the building.
