Annette Poirier had won 1st place in all three categories: Individual Kata, Kumite and Team Kata during the Canadian National Exhibition (C.N.E.) in September of 1989.

We can see other competitors who attended the Canadian National Exhibition (C.N.E.) in September of 1989. As noted, Annette Poirier had taken 1st place Team Kata with her teammates Jean Richard and Paul Boucher. We can also mention that Roger Doiron of Shediac had fared well at that tournament. He finished 3rd place in Individual Kumite.

Absent from the photo, we also know that Stacy LeBlanc had won 2nd place Individual Kumite in the Yellow belt division and that Huberte LeBlanc had finished 2nd place Individual Kumite for the woman Orange/Green belts category during this Maritime Championship.

The following names were promoted to Yodan: Brian Hildreth, Morel Goguen and Claude Hebert while Peter Kelly received his Sandan. The next group changed their belts to Nidan: Stephane Richard, Oscar Goguen, Clarence Leger, Michel Bourque and Leonard Gallant. Leonard was absent during the photo shoot. Those receiving their 1st degree Black belt or Shodan on this day are: Joanne Boileau, Marie Jones, Leonard Lirette, Pierre Bastarache, Ghislain Caissie, Marc Hebert, Victor Duplessis and Nick Robichaud.
