THE HIGHLANDS

Guidebook: STRATHNAIRN

Forthcoming 2022.

This guide introduces the climber to the bouldering in Strathnairn, a mecca to the boulderers of Inverness. The rock in this wide ‘strath’ is a fierce and grippy gneiss, known as ‘Strathnairn granite’ and gives very physical and athletic bouldering. The glen is home to the mighty Bunnet Stane, also known as the Ruthven Boulder. Other venues featured include the new venues of Roof Town and the Kelpie Boulders, as well as all the new problems at Dunlichity, Duntelchaig, Barry Valley, Brin, and Farr.

The author Rob Thomas has dedicated decades to this beautiful glen, and his love for explorative bouldering and the heritage of the sport shines through.

Guidebook: NORTHERN HIGHLANDS

The forthcoming guide to Northern Highlands Bouldering will feature a vast array of venues, from lonely glens to remote coastline coves. Perhaps the last bastion of the unknown, the Northern Highlands hold plenty of mighty hidden stones and blocs for those willing to explore stunning landscapes of solitude. We are currently seeking a lead editor for this volume, so if you are interested, please contact the general editor John Watson.
