What is Suomi-koulu?

Finnish School of New England was founded in the spring of 1991 to serve the Greater Boston area.

The purpose of the school is to:

• teach and perpetuate the Finnish language,

• provide information about Finland and Finnish culture,

• maintain Finnish traditions among Finns living in the New England area.

The language classes meet generally on Saturdays twice a month in West Newton. During the two-hour school day, Finnish is the language of choice in children's classes.

Christmas and Spring Celebrations wrap up the fall and spring semesters. 

The operation of the school depends largely on voluntary activity. In addition, the National Board of Education of Finland, and both Finnish and American companies, organizations and individual support Suomi-koulu with donations.

Tuition 2026-2027

The tuition rates per school year per family are:

• 1 student: whole school year $320

• 2 students: whole school year $460

• 3 students: whole school year $580

• 4 students: whole school year $720

• Adult student: whole school year $530 (the adult group meets virtually 26 times per year for 60 minutes at a time)

FF-Boston membership fee (incl. insurance): $30/family, included for Adults.
