About Jeff

Jeff Borland is Truby Williams Professor of Economics at the University of Melbourne. He has a B.A. (Hons) in Economics and History from the University of Melbourne, and a PhD in Economics from Yale University. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. In 2020 he received the annual Economic Society of Australia Distinguished Fellow award.

Jeff’s main research interests are analysis of the operation of labour markets in Australia, program and policy evaluation and design, applications of microeconomic theory (mainly sports economics), and Australian economic history. His current teaching is in the areas of microeconomics and economic analysis of public policy.

Between 1998 and mid-2002 Jeff was Co-Editor and Editor of the Economic Record, and from 2011 to 2015 was a Co-Editor of Economic Inquiry.
