Me

My name is Boqun Wang (the pronunciation is Boh Ch'ün Wahng). 


At present, I am an Overseas High-Caliber Personnel of Shenzhen Municipality, a FRM holder, an off-campus master's mentor of the School of Finance of the University of International Business and Economics, and an enterprise supervisor of the Fanhai International School of Finance in Fudan University. I have published papers in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Papers in Regional Science, and Economics Letter. My articles have won the nomination award of Masahiko Aoki Award for Economics Paper, the Gregory Chow best paper award, and the best paper award of the Department of Economics of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.


I joined the Global Risk Department of Bank of America as an economist after graduating from my doctor's degree in 2016, mainly doing macro research related to stress testing. In addition, I have also worked as a visiting scholar and summer economist at the International Monetary Fund for a short time. In 2018, I returned to China to join Alibaba and stayed in several departments. First, I did some trade-related macro research in the supply chain sector. Then, I worked as a comprehensive risk management expert in business risk control, mainly in the comprehensive risk management of financial products and big data analysis of fraud and anti-money laundering. Then, I worked as an industry research expert in Luohan Academy, mainly doing research of China's e-commerce industry belt based on Alibaba's big data. In 2021, I joined the Guolian Securities Research Institute and was mainly responsible for analyzing the overseas macro economy. In 2022, I joined the Global Institute for Supply Chains of GF Securities and served as the macro and regional chief researcher, mainly doing research related to regional economy and industrial development.


I got my Ph.D. majoring in international finance at Economics Department, at JHU (Johns Hopkins University). I got an MPhil degree in economics at  Economics Department, at CUHK (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), HK, before coming to JHU. I got my BA in finance and BS in applied math at Beijing University, Beijing, China.

Research Highlights:  A picture is Worth a Thousand Words

This is the first paper to study the role played by economic transition in reducing output volatility using China’s data.


Our model implications shed light on the history of decentralization reforms in the People’s Republic of China. A strict adherence to the central renders decentralization welfare-reducing, causing low output and high volatility.
