Verne Meeds, owner of Blue Moon Equine Services, operates a full training facility in Ridgefield, Washington. Verne currently specializes in working with inexperienced horses of all breeds, with an emphasis on off the track Thoroughbreds, and turning them and their riders into Hunter/Jumper champions. In the past several years, Verne's students and horses have won Championships and Reserve Championships in numerous divisions for children and adults. Verne's students have competed in schooling, A and AA rates shows. Verne starteed riding professionally as a teenager at various Canadian racetracks, both as a jockey and an excercise rider. He later spent several years training horses for the track. Verne went on to manage and own a Hunter/Jumper training stable, Windhaven Farms, in Saskatchewan, Canada. During this time, he competed all over Western Canada and California, including Spruce Meadows. Verne was a consistent winner of Saskatchewan Horse Federation and Canadian Equestrian Federation Zone awards. The highlight of these years was to compete at the Canadian Summer Games, where he won a Silver Medal. As owner of Windhaven Farms, Verne was responsible for all aspects of care for the 30 or so horses that he owned, or had in training. He decided to increase his horsemanship skills by attending, and graduating from, both farrier and equine chiropractor schools. Starting in early 2000, Verne moved to Minnesota for family reasons. For 6 years, Verne instructed riders, trained horses and showed in Equitation, Hunter/Jumper and Western throughout the Minneapolis, Minnesota metropolitan area. His students consistently achieved top placings. Verne and his students also competed successfully at several Three Day Event venues. Verne also continued to provide services as a farrier. An opportunity to relocate then brought Verne to the Portland area in 2006. Verne has had the opportunity to attend clinics taught by:
