5th Annual SCS Art Show 2009

5th Annual Senior Community Services Art Show Critique for Henry T. Mitchell, Jr. (June 06, 2009), composed by Mike Reger

Henry Mitchell Jr. was born in Philadelphia PA on July 30, 1929. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Temple University, Stella E. Tyler School of Fine Arts in June 1960. He is the school's first totally blind graduate. He still plans to complete his studies towards a Masters Degree.

The smaller piece of work is a ceramic sculpture, entitled Gothic Meditations. It depicts two half-figures recessed within a Gothic arch. It is composed of ceramic clay and is mounted on a base of wood. The fired clay is natural colored and its base is painted black.

The single figure is a lone sculpture entitled Flamenco Negrita. It is composed of a coat hanger wire armature, standing upon a base and posed in a semi-active position as though preparing to move into other active positions.

The entire composition is comprised of homemade self-hardening clay. The entire composition is intended to express in position and colors the feeling and mood inherent in Spanish Flamenco music.
