About Us

Meet the Owners

Greg and Christa Kauk along with Shannon and Kayla Scheffe had a dream of owning, operating and living the campground lifestyle. In 2023 that dream came true when they found Big Lake Campground and fell in love with Algoma, Lake Michigan, and all of its surroundings. Both families uprooted and moved to the campground where they live and immerse themselves in the community and local schools. Greg and Kayla (brother and sister) spent a portion of their childhood living in RV parks with their father, a carpenter, and their mother, a traveling RN, where every 13 weeks they'd find themselves immersed in new adventures all across the country. Fast forward many many years later and that childhood they cherished has become something they desire their own kids to enjoy.  Now as co-owners of Big Lake Campground, both families get to experience amazing people, stories and culture every day!

About the Campground

Big Lake Campground is located within "friendly" Algoma, Wisconsin in a quiet, comfortable and clean rural setting. You'll soon find this campground a favorite choice for your destination whether it be for a day, a week or the entire season. Big Lake Campground is located approximately one mile from the boat launch, fishing piers, beaches, shopping, fine dining, wineries, arts, and a short distance from golf courses. Big Lake Campground prides itself as being the gate keeper to the Door Peninsula; just a quick trip up into wine country with the hustle and bustle of tourists, but then just as quickly get back to the quiet serenity that this little campground offers.  Also, it's only 600 yards away from Lake Michigan where one can truly enjoy the cool breezes on hot summer days while camping and relaxing. Bikers, tourists, tenters, sportsmen or RV'ers are all given a cordial personal welcome with a warm smile.  There are large level sites that are tree covered and shady as well as large open sunny sites that meet different needs.
