Our PRIMARY goal is to be positive support for the North Medford High School softball team. We will achieve this goal through our daily work ethic, motivation, and desire to set a standard of excellence. As a TEAM of young female athletes, coaches, parents, and board memberxs we will strive to be positive lifelong role models for one another. Family involvement and athletic opportunity to excel will be a priority through refined skill development and sportsmanship. PHILOSOPHY This program is built around the fundamental philosophical principles as follows: · Kids will develop to their highest potential when they are involved in an activity they enjoy and care deeply about. · The development of kids is at its best when they feel that they are part of a caring community, team or program-through a sense of being known, being needed and being cared for.· This positive development requires the cultivation of an intrinsic motivation that extends beyond the lines of a softball diamond and into all phases of their lives.· A program such as ours’ cannot survive without the support and involvement of the child’s parents and siblings. Within the realm of a traveling tournament softball program, we must promote, foster and maintain a comfortable, enjoyable and safe atmosphere. Only then will all involved benefit from the friendships and camaraderie that will develop.· Kids must experience both wins and losses and be able to deal with both victory and disappointment in order that their character grows to its potential. The success of this program will never be based on the results on a scoreboard, but on the collective experiences of those who commit their time and effort.CORE VALUES The parents, coaches and staff of Black Tornado Fastpitch must focus and foster value themes, for these comprise the foundation for a child’s own character as well as the growth of their social and emotional skill sets. TEAMWORK- The goals of the team and the program must come before the goals of any one individual. While we provide plenty of opportunity for individual accomplishments, teamwork, on and off the diamond is the mortar that holds the program together. COMMITMENT- Each child and each parent must maintain a level of commitment commensurate with the level commitment required of each team and the program itself. PERSEVERANCE- Only when each child is able to persevere through the various stages of ups and downs of our program throughout a season of tryouts, practices and tournaments, will they develop to their fullest potential. FAIR PLAY AND RESPECT- Fair play and respect for the sport and others must be consistently put into action on and off the diamond. DESIRE FOR IMPROVEMENT- No matter their individual skill or experience level, the drive to constantly improve must be fostered and encouraged. This core value, as well as others, should be present in any endeavor the child involves herself in, on and off the diamond.COMMUNICATION E-mail is the primary mode of communication for the Black Tornado Fastpitch. E-mail addresses of the coaching staff and board members will be supplied. Home phone numbers, cell numbers and work numbers will also be supplied but we ask for common courtesy and discretion when used. PROGRAM GOALS FOR THE SEASON These are the goals for the program for the season. · To field competitive teams in as many age groups as will be supported by the number of kids who wish to be involved in the program. If necessary, multiple teams in each age group will be formed, and will compete at the appropriate levels.· To maintain the integrity of the program as it grows. The philosophy, mission statement and core values must be unchanged no matter whether the program grows in numbers, stay with the same number of kids, or is reduced; no matter who coaches and no matter who makes up the Board of Directors. It is not the quantity of kids who participate; it’s the quality of their commitment.· To reduce or revise our travel commitment to a point of comfort for the parents and kids involved in our program. Although we remain a traveling softball program, we give consideration to current economic and financial conditions before we make out our schedule. State, Regional and National berths will be the rule, not the exception.· To continue to develop new coaches and assistant coaches who are able to continue to lead the program in a positive direction.· To maintain the level of communication we’ve had to date and to increase parental involvement.· To continue with a strong Board of Directors who will continue to increase their level of involvement in the program.· To take full advantage of the skills and abilities of as many parents as possible in the running and day to day operation of the program.· To ensure the parents in the Black tornado program take care to give as much of their energies as possible to develop and maintain the facilities at North Medford High School. COACHES GOALS Here are the goals that our coaches would like to reach this season.· To provide for the continuous growth in the skill level of the individuals and teams that makes up the Black Tornado program. The level of play from the beginning of practices through the last tournament of the year should incrementally and noticeably improve as the year progresses.· To gain and maintain the level of discipline and structure necessary to promote attentiveness and diligence at practice as well as controlled, intelligent and self respecting play during the course of a game or series of games.· To work to continuously maintain and/or improve on the image, reputation and integrity of the Black Tornado Softball program.· To maintain a close relationship with each child as well as the parents of each child, so that all feel empowered, appreciated and an integral part of the program. Further, to communicate the values, goals and expectations of the program in an effective manner so each parent and child knows exactly what is expected of them and the reasons for it.· To always keep the goals, values, mission statement and philosophies of the Black tornado organization close at hand. FOCUS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors provides the general management and direction for the Black tornado program. The board will oversee the collection and dispersal of all monies related to the program and act as a mediating body to review any concerns and keep the focus of the program on our core values and mission statement.
